Tuition -> What A Coaching Lesson

Why A Coaching Lesson?

HONESTLY? ..... Because I can save you hours and hours of frustration in trying to get it wrong!

But there’s a lot more to my coaching lessons:

Think about this….did you learn by ‘trial and error’, observing others, or simply taught to do specific things and then left to your own devices? That’s fine to a point.

Now what might happen if you are correctly shown how to do something from the outset through demonstration, being advised, guided and developed so as to tap directly into your latent talents. Wouldn’t that make a big difference to you?
That is what my ‘style’ of coaching is all about!

So, rather than spend hours thrashing the air with the wrong fly rod and set up; splashing the water; getting into tangles, even hooking yourself; selecting that killer fly solely by chance; getting stressed to the point of wanting to ‘give up’; and finally going home tense and aching all over.

Wouldn’t it be better to spend just a couple of hours receiving a professional lesson to put you on the right track from the outset and actually enjoy this new experience, gaining a sense of achievement  and yearning for the next time?

As a professional coach I can:

  • Convey ways of introducing you to these new skills, ideas and experiences.
  • Get you quickly doing those seemingly impossible tasks you can’t learn from books or in a classroom, naturally, without thinking;
  • Offer positive one-to-one development tuition;
  • Provide you with timely and focused advice and knowledge, based on my  years of fishing experience, that best suits your requirements; and importantly,
  • Ensure the skills you pick up are put into ‘memory’ (both physically and mentally)

I reckon I can help you. There’s more to fly fishing than fishing!

Classroom Programmes

My ‘Classroom Programme’  is designed for those ‘rainy days’ when fishing is out of the question, or where a little more academia is required. Perhaps mixing a bit of theory with practical?

Based on experience with a Summer School programme, it includes:

(i) Children’s Programme

  • Being safe, having fun.
  • The Fishes world.
  • What’s under the surface? (pond dipping and class room discussion).
  • Tackle box (hands on).
  • Let’s cast.
  • Let’s fish and have fun.

This is a very interactive Programme for enquiring minds. An antidote for boredom!

This programme can be run over 4 x 3 hour sessions during the summer months (approx 12 hours). A Certificate is given to all participants who complete the programme.
Price on application.

(ii) Adult’s Programme

  • Safety First.
  • The Salmonid species.
  • Tackle box.
  • Basic introduction to entomology.
  • Assembling the rod.
  • How it all works.
  • Learning to cast:
    • Roll Cast
    • Overhead Cast
  • Fishing session (weather permitting).
  • Fishing techniques (dependent on venue).
  • Introduction to fly-tying.

This programme can be run over 4 evenings during the summer months (approx 12 hours).
Price on application.

Halliford Mere Trout Fishery

Halliford Mere Trout Fishery (my club water and principle coaching venue)

What you see, is what you get….. a stunningly picturesque fishery totalling some 15 acres of carefully crafted waterside comprising 4 spring fed lakes. Lakes 1, 2 and 3 (fly only) are stocked with hard fighting rainbow trout from 2Ibs upwards and the occasional large brown trout. It’s Lake 4 if you fancy pike, perch and coarse fish. Primarily a catch and release water, although up to two fish can be purchased.
The tranquil nature of this unique environmental microcosm is, for most a splendid release from a nearby mad and hectic world.
River Taff - South Wales

For a truely memorable experience then this must be one of my favourite day outs. 2.5 hours from home, glorious scenery and I believe one of South Wales’ best kept secrets (until now!)

I have nothing but total respect for the Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association (MTAA) who have done so much to restore this magnificent river.
Frensham Trout Fishery

Another favourite for the beginner is Frensham Trout Fishery. A very pretty water in the heart of Surrey (Churt) with good access, safe fishing and hard fighting rainbow trout.
